Smokies Wildlife

There are a couple of different ways to go about capturing animals in nature. One as with this elk shot is to try to capture an interesting behavior. The elk in Chataloochee were very active the morning I was there and the fog really made for a great atmosphere. These two were apparently involved in some kind of courtship behaviors. Another type of shot you can go for is to try to capture the animal in their environment. This is more like the second shot of the salamander. It shows him sitting on his mossy rock and the little pool of water behind it. The other main way to photograph an animal if it will let you get close enough is the portrait style shot. You are more likely to get these in places like Yellowstone where the animals are very habituated to the people.
