Went down to Ballast Point Park for the moonrise tonight. Tonight’s moon is called the Snow Moon. It is also a micro moon, the smallest moon of the year because of the distance from Earth at this part of its orbit.

Hunter’s Moonrise over the St Pete Pier
Went over to a very busy St Pete Pier on Saturday night to photograph the Full Hunter’s moon rising over next to and over the pier. We finally had a great clear night and I got a bunch of good shots.
Worm Moon
Met up with my photo crew tonight to shoot the Worm Moon rising over the Courtney Campbell Causeway, one of the bridges linking Tampa and Pinellas. They came out pretty good. We also had some people staged at the overlooks on the side of the bridge that we silhouetted against […]
The Wolf Moon over Tampa
Got some nice shots of the Wolf Moon rising over Tampa on Friday night. The key to making the moon look so large is being a good distance away (we were probably 12-13 miles from downtown Tampa) and using a long telephoto lens (mine was a 560mm equivalent).
Super Flower Blood Moon over Tampa
Tonight we watched the Super Flower Blood Moon rise over downtown Tampa. The clouds blocked the moon initially but it popped out for a few minutes before ducking behind clouds again.
The worm moon and Lightning over Tampa
Went out last night to try to capture the Worm Moon rising over downtown Tampa. The weather somewhat blocked that as there was a huge storm system 2/3 of the way to the other side of the state that blocked the moon until it was well above the city. We […]
Hunter’s Moon
For October’s full moon which was called a Hunter’s moon I decided to head to my old standby, Ballast Point Park. I knew it would be a difficult shot because I had to shoot from the right side of the main pier where there are a ton of mangroves. Luckily […]
Moonset and Sunrise at Fort Desoto
This morning my plan was to go to the South Skyway Bridge Fishing Pier to capture the full moon setting over the water and the sun rising over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. However, on arrival, I was told that the bridge is only open for fishermen between sunrise and sunset. […]
Moon over Miami
A few more shots today of our trip to Miami that coincided with the Blue Moon. Both shots included a moon that was composited back into the image. For the Tight Skyline shot I changed the location for the purpose of the photo. For the wide shot it is in […]
Miami Skyline
Two shots of the Miami skyline today. They were taken 20 minutes apart yet have a very different look to them. The first shot was taken while the sky was still dark and I was tightly zoomed in on the biggest mass of buildings in the Miami downtown area. This […]
