This post shows an episode of attempted predation by a Laughing Gull of a baby Black Skimmer. This unfortunately is a very common occurrence. It is hard to watch, but unfortunately that is just nature. This baby was grabbed and dropped several times. After it was dropped the first time an adult Black Skimmer swooped at it. Then the Laughing Gull came back again, picked it up and dropped it. After a minute or two of trying to reposition the chick it tried to fly off with it one more time and dropped it near us photographers. There was also a wildlife officer there who said she would usually not intervene, but because of where it was she didn’t want it to cause more of the parents to get upset and cause more chicks to get taken. Hopefully the little guy will make it somewhere where it can get some help. Back to Original POST
