Key Deer and Robbie’s Marina

We didn’t make to many side trips on our visit to Dry Tortugas National Park, but we did stop to see some Key Deer on the way down and at Robbie’s Marina on the way back to feed the Tarpon. Two can’t miss Keys experiences in my book. On the way down to Key West we planned on stopping on Big Pine Key to look for Key Deer. As we were driving past the Key Deer Visitor Center on US1 I looked over and saw 2 deer standing in the parking lot. We pulled over nearby and were able to see a mother and young fawn. We also saw a couple iguanas, a curly-tailed lizard, and an injured Key Deer buck.

On the way back we stopped at Robbie’s Marina to feed the Tarpon. If you are not aware, Tarpon are huge fish. At Robbie’s you pay to go out on their pier, buy a bucket of small fish and you dangle them above the water. The Tarpon shoot out of the water to grab the fish. It is pretty impressive.
