Sandhill Crane Colts and More

Decided to head out this morning to try to take some pictures before the weather turned ugly. It worked out pretty well. I went back to the Circle B Bar Reserve again. After finding the preying mantis on my last visit I was much more focused on the plants and found several interesting spiders and insects. The highlight was definitely the sandhill crane colts. This is the same family I have photographed on my last 2 visits. 2 visits ago they ere only days old. I then photographed them at 2 weeks and today about 4 weeks old. Today since the weather wasn’t as pretty I had them to myself and sat by them and watched them feed for about 45 minutes or so. The babies got fed some kind of little worm, a grub, a dragonfly and several mole crickets. I then swung by Lake Morton to check on the swans. The black swans were not on the nest anymore and I didn’t see any with babies. The white swans (Mute Swans) are still sitting on their eggs and none of them got up at all while I was there so I don’t think any have hatched yet. I did find a cooperative White Pelican and Wood Duck.
