Picnic Island Finds

This morning we took the girls to Picnic Island to have a little bit of beach time. Picnic Island is nice because it is 10 minutes from our house and it makes doing a half day at the beach so much easier. The girls had a good time and we actually found a lot of cool wildlife in the water. We saw some dolphins swim by. We also caught about 6 hermit crabs that the girls built small habitats for so we could watch them for a few minutes. We also find a really pretty Lightning Whelk. I took it out of the water to take a picture but then put it back since it was alive. Then I found a scallop which was nice and opened up for me to so we could take a good look at it before returning it to the water. Finally, my daughter caught a baby horseshoe crab. We watched him scoot around for a few minutes before returning him to the water also. Not bad for about 3 hours at the beach.
