The original Columbia Restaurant, located in the historic Ybor City neighborhood in Tampa, Florida, is the oldest continuously operated restaurant in Florida, the oldest Spanish restaurant in the United States and one of the largest Spanish restaurants in the world with 1,700 seats in 15 dining rooms taking up 52,000 square feet over an entire city block. Founded in 1905 in, the landmark is still owned by the Hernandez/Gonzmart family and serves Spanish and Cuban cuisine. It began in Tampa’s Ybor City, (pronounced EE-bore) as a small 60-seat corner cafe known for its Cuban coffee and authentic Cuban sandwiches, frequented by the local cigar workers. Currently it is know more for its food including it’s cuban sandwiches, 1905 salad paella and also sangria. There are also Flamenco dance performances twice a night Monday through Saturday at 7 PM and 9:30 PM. There are a lot of different rooms, each intricately decorated with their own theme, but all go together very well.
