Sandhill Cranes

Sandhill Cranes are very interesting birds to watch. In lots of places in Florida they are fairly habituated and you can get pretty close. Usually in spring you start to see the little baby fluff ball babies. In the beginning they actually sit on mom’s back. Once they are big enough they follow mom and dad around looking for bugs to eat. The Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland is a good place to see them. Usually you can see them from a distance and see which way they are going. I usually then just set up and let them walk past me which usually allows for a fairly close encounter without frightening them.
