Badlands Bighorn Sheep

One of the best photography experiences I have ever had happened recently in Badlands National Park in South Dakota. We spent the day exploring Badlands National Park and then had dinner and went to our cabin. I decided to head back to the park for sunset and my oldest daughter came with me while the rest of the family stayed in the cabin. Almost immediately upon entering the park I spotted a herd of bighorn sheep. We drove over by them and parked and watched and photographed them for at least 30 minutes. This was just before sunset so they had beautiful warm light shining on them. There ended up being almost 50 bighorn sheep of which about 15 were youngsters. Some of the young ones started playing and chasing each other after eating for awhile. They were pretty cute. We eventually moved on to capture not only a nice sunset, but an awesome full moonrise behind some of the Badlands hills (pics of those to come later).
