Over spring break we took a trip down to South Florida and hit several parks. The first stop was Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. We did the Big Bend Boardwalk. We saw several gators, some wading birds, and a Bald Eagle. The highlight though (at least for me) was a bunch of mating Florida Water Snakes. At first we noticed several snakes swimming around a section of swamp with low water levels. After a couple of minutes they started climbing up and massing on a large branch. I assume this is mating activity, but have never seen anything like that before in my adventures.
