Reddish Egrets, Fort Desoto

Reddish Egrets are one of the favorite birds for many bird photographers to take pictures of. There are several reasons. First, they are pretty cool looking birds. Second, there are two color variations, a dark morph and a white morph. Third, when hunting they prance around and make a cool display, occasionally hopping or taking very short flights. One of the easiest places to see Reddish Egrets is at Fort Desoto Park just off of St Petersburg. I photographed this pair at the long fishing pier as they gathered around to try to get a little snack from the fisherman.
