I have posted several pictures of the Cass Street Rail Bridge in the past, but tonight I have maybe my most unique shot of the bridge and some more information on it. The bridge is a Scherzer Rolling Lift Bridge which was built in Built in 1915 for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. This type of bridge raises the span by rolling on a track resembling a rocking chair base. The “Scherzer” rolling lift is a patented refinement by the American engineer William Donald Scherzer. The photo itself is a circular fisheyewhich allowed me to capture both ends of the bridge from inside of it. The second shot is a more normal view of the bridge and downtown Tampa.
