Big Cypress Preserve Sightings

On my trip last week to the Big Cypress National Preserve wildlife was a bit scarce except for a few gators trying to soak up the sun on the side of the road. Two less common things that I was able to photograph were the Big Cypress Fox Squirrel and the Florida Gar. The Big Cypress Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger avicennia) is a subscpecies that is considered threatened. Only 15 sighting were reported for all of 2011 in the Big Cypress Preserve region. Florida Gar (Lepisosteus platyrhincus) are very common but usually the water is not clear enough where you can get a good photo.
