Besides the birds

A few other cool finds from the Circle B Bar Reserve on Sunday were a Firewheel or Indian Blanket and a Viceroy butterfly. The Firewheel (Gaillardia pulchella) also goes by several other names including Indian blanket, Indian Blanketflower, or Sundance. They are one of my favorite wildflowers that grow in Florida. Finding these was a good reason to get out my macro lens and practice a little with it. There are two types of Viceroy butterfly (Limenitis archippus). Its wings feature an orange and black pattern, and over most of its range it is a mimic of the Monarch butterfly. In the Southern United States Viceroys often share the pattern of the Queen butterfly. I believe that this one is similar to the Monarch but I am not positive.
