Morocco Travel

In 2005 my sister finished a 2 year stint in the Peace Corps in Niger. I met her at the end of her term and we traveled for 2 weeks in Niger and then had to fly out through Morocco and so spent one week traveling there. We went to Marrakesh, Fez, and Casablanca. These three cities are not too far apart, but are incredibly different. Marrakesh, especially the souqs (open air markets) is very touristy. One of the best things I remember about Marrakesh was getting fresh squeezed orange juice daily in the main square (Djemaa el-Fna) of the old town. Then at night it would be filled with food stands and entertainers. The second shot is a street shot I took while wandering Marrakesh. Fez seemed to me to be a lot more authentic and historic. The first shot tonight is from a leather tannery. They use a variety of dies to color and condition the leather and it is all down by manual labor. It was kind of a shock to go from Fez to Casablanca. Casablanca is a very modern city and almost felt like it could have been in Europe.
