I now have a variety of nests in the neighborhood that I have been checking on 1-2 times per week at least.

Killdeer nest at the local elementary school. Right in front of where I park 4 days a week to pick up Emery. Should be hatching within the week.

After dropping Jordan off at school one day this week I spotted a palm tree with a Pileated Woodpecker sticking out of a hole. There is a nest and I heard babies but didn’t get to see them yet.

White watching that nest a pair of American Kestrels landed on the goal posts for the football practice field of the high school.

A Common Grackle landed on the fence nearby.

There is the nest. Will check back soon.

Pileated Pair

Blue Jay

Last stop was at the Screech Owl I found recently while jogging.

By the way it’s hard to tell from the picture but they are pretty small. Typically measuring 6.3 to 9.8 inches and weighing between 4.3 and 8.6 ounces, they are roughly the size of a American Robin.
Love the photos of the nesting sites of various birds. I just hope they all survive. It is such an important way to look at how our feathered friends take care of their young.
the pileated are lovely, and so are all the others.
