Reddish Egrets

Headed out to Fort Desoto this morning. Was hoping to see the White Pelicans that have been sighted there recently, but didn’t even make it that far. A juvenile Reddish Egret was hunting in the lagoon and it was hard to walk past that. I watched it feeding there for awhile and then it’s sibling showed up and shortly after both flew over to the beach. I followed them to the beach and had to keep moving out ahead of them as they worked their way up the shore.

The tide was out and there were a ton of Fiddler Crabs moving around.

The Egret shook out all it’s feathers and gave me a little staredown.

Sibling Reddish Egrets

They are some of nature photographers favorite birds because they run back and forth, shade the water with their wings, and generally just dance around while fishing.

There was a little feeding frenzy going on offshore with some Bottlenose Dolphins and Laughing Gulls.

Little guy has some attitude.

Full wing spread

Caught a fish.

Another fish.

Down the hatch.

Shaking it off.

Fishing in the waves.

Sibling rivalry.

American Kestrel between the branches.

The orange egrets are beautiful and don’t care that they are a little different than other birds. They can be different and so beautiful in their own way. Love it.

  2. Love the pictures
