I had an extra day off on Friday and decided to revisit an area I haven’t been since January near Kissimmee. This area is very consistent with Bald Eagles, Caracaras and is the only place I really see Meadowlarks.
My first find was this Juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk.
After a little more road cruising I came upon this pair of Bald Eagles watching over their territory.
My next find was an Eastern Meadowlark singing away. Look at those feet and nails.
As I continued cruising I spotted another Bald Eagle in a pine tree. As I stopped to look at him this coyote crossed the road fairly close to me letting me get my best shots of them that I have.
I next spotted a Great Blue Heron with a large fish. This is a Walking Catfish. He didn’t stay to eat it in front of me and flew off with it.
The next Bald Eagle I found was sitting in some of the sod as much of the area around there is sod farms.
Finally found the Caracaras. This is an adult and a juvenile.

The juvenile sitting alone and then flying off also.
Male and Female Barn Swallows
Loggerhead Shrike with Common Green Darner dragonfly. Loggerhead Shrikes are nicknamed “Murder Birds”. They are known for catching prey and then impaling it on sticks or barb wire to save it for later. This was my fist time actually being able to photograph these behaviors.
Always something I don’t expect. What a great combination of birds: eagle, caracaras, meadowlarks and more. Thanks for finding creatures I could never find.
Great pics of the shrike impaling the dragonfly. I had no idea. I have learned a lot from your posts.
Gary set up my computer this morning and I was happy to see your newest pics. My favorite was the bird with the BIG fish.
