Skimmers skimming

I wasn’t sure what the weather was going to do so opted for my close spot of Roosevelt Wetlands again. I got there around 7:30 which is almost an hour after the current sunrise and it got hit quick. I left by 9 and I was dripping. Watching the Black Skimmer fish again was the highlight. I got some shots with reflections on the last visit but there was a lot of debris/weeds in the area that made me like the shots less. I got some much cleaner reflections today and a bunch with them catching (and losing) fish. I continue to find the ever elusive Least Bitterns here but mostly get photos of them flying away from me. An immature Little Blue Heron with the mottled blue and white pattern was another highlight. With all the rain the baby gators have dispersed and I couldn’t find them. Finally on my way out, an Anhinga caught a fish and came ashore less than 10 feet from me to pull it off it’s beak and eat it.

I love the reflections. It looks so easy for those birds to swallow fish. It’s surprising they don’t choke.

  2. Wow – the little blue heron maturing photo pattern!
