Since the full moon coincided with the weekend I was able to catch the moonset this morning. I captured it at Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach. I had not been there in quite awhile. It turned out good but had some challenging shooting conditions, primarily the wind.

After the full moon I stopped to check on the baby Barred owls. They have fledged and are hiding back in the trees and although I could hear them, I couldn’t see them. Nex stop was back to Roosevelt Wetlands. A few unexpected things happened there. First, I saw a Canada Goose. I don’t remember if I’ve seen one in Florida before. Second, the Canada Goose started chasing me. Third, I saw why he was chasing me, his partner had a nest literally on the trail.

I went back out for the full moon rise last night. I set up in Safety Harbor which was a little over 14 miles from downtown Tampa which was the foreground subject to shoot the moon with. Luckily it was a crystal clear sky and I was able to catch some good ones and make a timelapse of it rising.

Starting to rise behind downtown.

Just cleared the downtown buildings.

I never see the moon when it looks like the ones in these pictures. You lose a lot of sleep when you travel early to get the right light for the photos. Love ’em, Matt
