Great Horned Owlet Update

The owlets continue to grow well. They are losing their baby fuzziness and starting to get more adult plumage. They are also exercising their wings more. They were all 3 on the nest when I arrived and mom fed them and ate some more rat. Mom then left and stayed in a nearby pine tree. Dad is in another tree a little further away. If they were in a tree, they probably already would have left the nest. Since it’s a stand alone platform and they have to fly to the nearest tree it till probably be another 2 weeks or so (my guess). It has been fun watching the changes each week as they grow up.

Wonderful story of the owl family. It is great to see how the parents, especially the Mom, takes care of feeding and teaching the young about flying and feeding. A story in photographs.

  2. Owls always seem to be staring at you. Such a piercing look! I’d love to see one swoop down and catch a fast-running rat.
    Thanks, Matt.
