Tonight I had one of those moments that you spend time in nature for. I had the chance to observe a Sandhill Crane nest for the last two night with a chick on it’s 3rd and 4th days. The first night I got to see the chick a little when the parent stood up and the baby walked around the nest a little bit. Tonight I made another trip and got the photos I was going for, the chick peering out of it’s parents feathers. When I originally arrived it was tucked in the tail feathers and I got a peek or two, but eventually it settled more on top and after some time waiting it finally popped out.

Probably my favorite shot from the first night.

Baby climbing back on the parent.

Parent snoozing on nest at end of 1st night.

Baby peeking out of the tail feathers.

The first peek from on top.

The cutest yawn.

It’s hard work being a baby. Another yawn.

Looking around.

Looking forward.

Yawn…

Peekaboo.

Both looking the same way.

Looking at each other.

Beak to beak.
These may be my favorite photos that you have taken, and that is out of thousands of shots you have taken over the years. These are truly amazing photos and I can understand why you love what you do. Thanks for these amazing photos.
What beautiful bird family photos! I just opened this email. What a nice way to start my day.
You have so much patience, waiting for the perfect shots. I love ’em.
