Fort Desoto

Fort Desoto is always good for finding something to shoot almost anytime of year. I of course had to stop for a sunrise shot of the Skyway Bridge first.

I then spent a good hour or so with a big flock of birds practicing some flight photography as they came back and forth with fish occasionally.

The flock was mostly Sandwich Terns (next 2 pics), Royal terns (2nd row left), Black Skimmers (2nd row right), and a few other mixed in including Common Terns (3rd row), Laughing Gulls and Red Knots.

On the way back towards the parking lot I found a Yellow-crowned Night Heron munching on a good sized crab which is their favorite food.

Finally I spent some time with the star of the show as far as most photographers are concerned, the Reddish Egret. They dance around changing directions frequently and sometimes flare their feathers way up. They are always fun to watch.
