Lunar Eclipse, Tampa April 2015

It has been a good day and a half of photography for me. Last night I went out to capture some fireworks that the city of Tampa was shooting off for the Women’s College Basketball Final Four. More about that later. Today’s post is about this morning’s lunar eclipse. I went out to Curtis Hixon Park so that I could capture the eclipse as it happened over the Unviersity of Tampa. One of the reasons I Went to the University of Tampa for this event is the sickle moon decorations on the minarets above the main building. These are perfect for silhouetting the moon or just to give some context to the picture. When I first arrived, it was pretty clouds and the moon was mostly hiding. I watched as the eclipse gradually progressed and captured what I could between clouds. Finally, shortly before sunrise and moonset, the clouds cleared and I was able to capture a few shots of the sliver moon. I shot initially with my telephoto lens and ended with a wide angle shot that took in the Tampa Riveralk in addition to the University of Tampa and the lunar eclipse.
