Got some nice shots of the Wolf Moon rising over Tampa on Friday night. The key to making the moon look so large is being a good distance away (we were probably 12-13 miles from downtown Tampa) and using a long telephoto lens (mine was a 560mm equivalent).

Water Street Tampa Christmas Decorations
The fastest growing area of downtown Tampa is Water Street Tampa. It is a series of developments by Jeff Vinik’s (the owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning) group. This is over near Amalie Arena. I noticed that they had some pretty nice Christmas Decorations so took a trip over to […]
Lunar Eclipse November 2022
Went out to shoot the lunar eclipse early this morning. Was beautifully clear until the moon started getting close to the buildings I wanted to photograph it with and then a bunch of clouds blew in. I was able to capture the phases of the eclipse and made a composite […]
Moonrise over Tampa
Made another outing to try to capture the moonrise over Tampa. The clouds again interfered and didn’t allow us to see the moon until almost half an hour after it rose so we missed some of the best shots. There was a beautiful sunset before this happened so that was […]
Bolts over the Bay
When heading out for my run tonight I saw a bunch of lightning in the direction of the Bay so I headed over to Ballast Point Park and I got some of my favorite lighting pictures yet.
Super Flower Blood Moon over Tampa
Tonight we watched the Super Flower Blood Moon rise over downtown Tampa. The clouds blocked the moon initially but it popped out for a few minutes before ducking behind clouds again.
The worm moon and Lightning over Tampa
Went out last night to try to capture the Worm Moon rising over downtown Tampa. The weather somewhat blocked that as there was a huge storm system 2/3 of the way to the other side of the state that blocked the moon until it was well above the city. We […]
Christmas in Tampa
I went out Thursday night to try to capture some of the Christmas Decorations around downtown Tampa. As seems to happen to me every year, there were some obstacles to getting the shots I wanted. The two main issues I had was they had a fence around Curtis Hixon Park. […]
Busch Gardens Tampa Bay
On Saturday we made a visit to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. We hadn’t been for awhile. Not too many changes since last time we went. Unfortunately the Cheetah Hunt roller coaster is down for maintenance but we rode Kumba, Montu, and Cobra’s Curse. The kids of course also enjoyed the […]
Fiery Tampa Sunrise
On a weekday morning that I happened to be off I made the decision to shoot sunrise at Julian Lane Park in Tampa. From there you have a good angle of the sunrise behind the Straz Center and downtown Tampa. Shortly after I arrived I by chance met a fellow […]
