Went down to Ballast Point Park for the moonrise tonight. Tonight’s moon is called the Snow Moon. It is also a micro moon, the smallest moon of the year because of the distance from Earth at this part of its orbit.

Lensball at Ballast Point
Got to try something new today. For my birthday, my work crew gifted me a lens ball so I took it out for sunrise this morning at Ballast Point Park. It is definitely a cool way to get some different photos. It will take a little experimenting to figure out […]
Ballast Point Rocket Launch
I’ve been trying to capture a rocket launch from Ballast Point park recently but haven’t had much luck. On this evening it was a little early to capture good streak shots of the rocket, but I thought we might get a space jellyfish and we did although it was a […]
Ballast Point Sunrise
Went to Ballast Point Park to try to get the alignment of the sun rising straight down the pier as I have captured in the past. I was probably a couple days later than I should have been. Still got a few cool shots including one of the alignment. Before […]
Bolts over the Bay
When heading out for my run tonight I saw a bunch of lightning in the direction of the Bay so I headed over to Ballast Point Park and I got some of my favorite lighting pictures yet.
Hunter’s Moon
For October’s full moon which was called a Hunter’s moon I decided to head to my old standby, Ballast Point Park. I knew it would be a difficult shot because I had to shoot from the right side of the main pier where there are a ton of mangroves. Luckily […]
Worm Moon
Went down to Ballast Point Park tonight to catch the full moon rise as it looked like it lined up pretty well with the pier. It was a little touch and go with some clouds, but ended up coming out pretty good. While I was waiting there were several dolphins […]
Sunrise at the Park
Whenever I only have time for a quick trip for the sunrise I head to Ballast Point Park. It is close by and has a lot of options for the sunrise shots. My favorite usually involves the long pier. Sometimes you also have to look in a different direction during […]
Ballast Point Black and White and Framed
Two slightly different takes on one of my favorite photo locations today. The sunrise that I went to see didn’t turn out very colorful so I tried a few different things. For the shot of the pier I used a neutral density filter to smooth the water and then ending […]
Tampa Mornings
My favorite time for photography is generally mornings. I have always been a morning person and since the majority of people are not, that makes the mornings a much more quiet and peaceful time for photography. I always like to arrive at least a half hour before sunrise especially if […]
