Rockets Galore

Last night was a night filled with rockets. First was the return of Crew 3. Returning on the SpaceX Dragon Endurance from the international space station after 6 months was a crew of 4 astronauts. It splashed down off the coast of Tampa Bay around 12:45 last night. It was accompanied by a small sonic boom.

I then drove home, caught about 2 1/2 hours of sleep and drove back to St Pete to capture the Launch of the Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX which was delivering more satellites to orbit.

Because the launch happened not to long before sunrise I was able to capture a phenomenon called Space Jellyfish. It is when the exhaust plumes from the rocket are lit up and it looks a little like a jellyfish.

Finally, below is a sequence of the entire launch including the space jellyfish and the booster returning to earth.
