Snakes

We saw 8 total snakes on our trip and at least one every day except for our final day. On our first stop at Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park, Jordan spotted a small watersnake swimming across the canal before we even made it to the boardwalk. Not too far down the boardwalk I stopped because of a noise I heard. I thought it was a bird, but after locating where the sound was coming from I discovered a Peninsula Ribbon Snake trying to eat a Cuban Tree frog. We watched for several minutes and I couldn’t get a great angle to photograph, but I think the frog was too big and eventually it got away. We also saw a Florida Water Snake on the same trail. We saw several black racers and a yellow rat snake. We also found a Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnake at Eco pond on an observation platform. Our last snake was a young water moccasin that was in the road at night as we were returning from a drive looking for a panther.
