One of my favorite things to try to capture in sunrise photos are silhouettes. In the first shot here of the Cocoa Beach Pier I was able to silhouette some fisherman against the rising sun. The people closest to the sun are full silhouettes, but it is amazing to me that you can still see details in some of the other people in the photo despite the huge contrast difference. This is partially due to the HDR process and partially due to detail recovery in Adobe Lightroom. The second shot is a more typical sunrise shot. This one I used a larger aperture to get the sunburst effect.
