Tampa Electric Manatee Viewing Area

I had heard about the Tampa Electric Manatee Viewing Center many times and even driven past it, but had never had a chance to visit. I made up for that over the last two days. I spent about 3 hours there over Sunday and Monday of this week and got to see a lot of manatees. The other cool thing that is going on there now besides about 150 or so manatees are the Spinner Sharks which jump out of the water in the same area. They were my primary photography target since unfortunately the manatees aren’t super photogenic from above. Some advice for anyone who plans on going. First, I would advise going on a weekday. Much less crowded. Second, going on a day that is warming up after a cold spell. Yesterday it was cold and the manatees were basically floating humps. Today, it was significantly warmer and the manatees were a lot more active. However, remember that the main reason there are so many there now is the cold weather so keep that in mind. The website is at http://www.tampaelectric.com/company/mvc/. Here is a selection of my favorite photos from my two trips.
