Waterworks Park Fireworks and Ulele Reflection

This weekend Tampa opened its newest park, Waterworks Park just north of downtown. I spent part of the morning there on Saturday and returned Saturday evening for the Grand Opening. Saturday morning was my first time checking the park out and overall I am pretty impressed. The park is not in the best area of town, but it will hopefully help to spur some redevelopment in the area. The park has a nice waterfront area which will be the future end of the Tampa Riverwalk once all the connections are completed. There is also a natural spring and they built a nice pond for the spring to flow into on the way to the Hillsborough River. The kids play area is nice with a lot of climbing equipment and a small splash area highlighted by a big bucket that tips over and spills a load of water every few minutes. There is also a new restaurant called Ulele which looks pretty cool from the outside and is scheduled to open August 26. It was a creation of Richard Gonzmart of the Columbia restaurant. For the morning I mostly had the park to myself. In the evening there were several food trucks, two bands performing in the band shell, the mayor and a pretty good crowd. My kids played in the playground for awhile and then we sat on the lawn and ate dinner while listening to music. The highlight for me was definitely the fireworks. They put on a very nice fireworks show to end the night. Lots of pictures to come of Waterworks Park and Ulele.
