Real Estate Photography and HDR

Real Estate photography is what HDR was made for in my opinion. Of course, HDR is often maligned as being over-saturated and unrealistic, but when done correctly it can be used with great results. With real estate photography you are often trying to capture both he inside and the outside of the house. There is often a big contrast in the amount of light inside versus outside. Turning on lights inside creates additional problems of different color casts and color temperatures. This is where HDR photography comes in. The longer exposures will expose for the inside and the shorter exposures will expose for the outside. When processing the HDR there are several options that can help to give you the more natural look that will work better for a real estate photo. The first shot tonight is a shot of a condo in the Element building in downtown Tampa. This was taken while teaching my first HDR workshop, more on that later. During the workshop I was asked how to capture this scene so I shot and processed the image during the session. I did use a fisheye lens which you would normally try to avoid with real estate photography, but because of the limited space was the best solution to capture this scene. The distortion could be corrected if needed, but looks OK in this case. The second shot is the same view of downtown Tampa, but this time from out on the balcony.
