Crested Caracara at Viera Wetlands

Crested Caracaras are probably my favorite Florida bird of prey although burrowing owls would give them a run for their money. I’m not sure what it is that I like about them, but I just think they have a cool look to them. In Florida, they occupy the central and southern areas and they live mainly in farming country. The best places that I know to see them are Three Lakes Wildlife Area in Kissimmee and Viera Wetlands. This bird was sitting on a perch not far from the road. I captured him as he took of and flew down to the road to get the rest of a coot that had been left behind.
