Fort Desoto Birding

Fort Desoto is one of the premier birding sites in Florida if not the United States. There are a wide variety of shorebirds throughout the years including some less common ones such as the white morph of the Reddish Egret. Fort Desoto is also a major stopping point for migrant birds. During spring and fall migration, you never know what you might see at Fort Desoto. Brown Pelicans are here year round while White Pelicans visit in the winter. Black Hooded Parakeets are an introduced species, but have established a population in St Petersburg and are occasionally seen at Fort Desoto. This picture was taken near Larry’s fountain in the Mulberry tree area by the rangers house.
