Birding at Fort Desoto

I am lucky to live about 30 minutes away from one of the best birding sites in the state of Florida which is Fort Desoto County Park in Tierra Verde. Being a great birding place also makes it a great place to practice a lot of different kinds of photography. One of the easiest things to do is to go to the fishing pier where the birds will sit 10 feet from you so you can do full frame portraits. The birds hang around the pier waiting for some extra bait fish to fall out of a net. This Great Egret had the green area around the eye indicating that he is a mature bird in breeding plumage. The second shot is of a Brown Pelican in flight. This was my first time getting close to a pelican since I got the new camera and I definitely got some of my best flight shots.
