F8 and be there

One of the most famous sayings in photography is F8 and be there. F8 is a camera setting that I won’t go into right now because the point of this statement is to get the shot you have to be in the right place at the right time. This is especially true with nature photography. I took a trip to the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland earlier this year mainly because I knew it was the right time for the Sandhill Cranes to have chicks and I knew that this would be a good place to photograph them. The second picture is one I found be being out there. This smallish gator was laying in the mud with this rather large fish in his mouth. I watched him for awhile and the gator did not move. He stayed in this position for at least 30 minutes before I moved on. Not sure what was going on there.
